We proudly center Blackness and honor the joy and resilience derived from our shared experiences.
We aim to leave behind what divides us and instead focus on what brings us together. This movement celebrates the vibrant diversity and collective strength of the Black community – fostering unity, empowerment and a profound sense of shared joy. It’s time that we describe ourselves by who we are and specifically, our joy. Black Joy is triumphant. It is bright and it is a critical component of the sustainability of us and our culture.
In an effort to name, display and be Black joy, a collective of volunteers representing Indianapolis-based Black-led organizations have come together to produce BLACK: A festival of Joy. This music-based community affair will spark a movement to describe Black people by their contribution and sustaining factor: OUR JOY.
