Traditionally, Black people have been described by our circumstances. By our deficit and by a funding need. It’s time that we describe ourselves by who we are and specifically, our joy. Black Joy is triumphant. It is bright and it is a critical component of the sustainability of us and our culture.

In an effort to name, display and be Black joy, a collective of volunteers representing Indianapolis-based Black-led organizations have come together to produce BLACK: A festival of Joy. This music-based community affair will spark a movement to describe Black people by their contribution and sustaining factor: our joy.
